Chasing a Vision: Our Journey to NIT Calicut

It started as a simple thought during a normal day. We saw the opportunity for the "Design for Bharat" Youth Innovation Challenge and figured, why not give it a shot? We did not win a trophy that day, but what we gained competing at the state level on 17 December 2025 was an honor.

The Long Road North

Our journey began on a silent 1:00 AM bus from Kottayam. Sleep was elusive. By 6:00 AM, we reached Kozhikode, eventually making our way to the NIT Calicut campus by 7:30. The early morning energy was a mix of adrenaline and significant fatigue.

After registering and receiving our event goodies, the real work started. We needed A3 posters printed immediately. We found a nearby shop, grabbed our prints, and returned to the venue. The atmosphere was incredibly energetic, surrounded by innovative teams from all across the state. Hanging out and talking with them was easily one of the highlights of the entire experience.

Preparing the pitch space

The Moment of Realization

We came to pitch Eliza 2.0, a local and offline AI assistant designed for areas with low connectivity, offering privacy-focused, voice-activated assistance without needing the internet.

The core moment of testing came during judging. We were near the end of the line. The fatigue from our midnight travel was real, and being the last team to present was draining.

The toughest part was definitely when the judging was happening. It felt like they were just not seeing the vision we had for Eliza 2.0. That was the moment I almost gave up.

But that moment of resistance was also our breakthrough. In that intense judging atmosphere, we suddenly saw multiple opportunities we had missed, realizing practical ways to refine our concept and make it even better.

A Victory in Experience

While our team, including Geo Cherian Mathew and myself, Karthik Sambhu R, did not take home a physical award, the victory was the experience itself. Competing at the state level, fine-tuning our vision, and making friends along the way meant everything. Before catching our 9:00 PM bus back home, we even managed to roam around Calicut with our new friends, celebrating the journey.

Receiving the certificate

This certificate is more than just paper. It is a reminder of a midnight bus ride, a challenging pitch, and the resilience we found when we almost let go. It represents a major step forward for us.
